interacial romances

i was listening to this South African radio, and the Dj was raising and opening this question out to the listeners, and am going to pass that on to you guys

so he asked, why is it that the most influential (very successful, maybe in sports, entertainment or whatever) black person will go for any plain old white person, actually he said influential black male will go for a plain white female, while a successful white male will go for the most good looking, ideal-body endowed black female?

i thought that was interesting
what do you guys think?
i mean of course there are exceptions

  1. To be honest, I'm not sure that I've noticed that one way or the other. I also do not pay all that much attention to pop culture though, so it might be by virtue of my own ignorance on the topic that I haven't noticed that. The one example I thought of, which may jut be an exception, is Seal and Heidi Klum-- obviously she's really good looking.

I look forward to hearing what everyone else thinks about this!

  2. LIke Clare I had never really thought about it...My dad is white and my mum is black and obviously I think they are pretty good looking so I've never thought about there being a difference in attractiveness between different raced people. Although, I have heard -whether from tv, music, etc- that a lot of black men find white women attractive, even if the white woman isn't the most physically attractive person. I think it has to do with society and the idea of "whiteness" being beautiful and pure. I don't mean that the media etc. has so much sway over people, but it is one of the most pervasive things in society. From what a person wears, to who (body type, hair, skin colour) is considered attractive, the media is always pushing a look and a way of life.

  3. Damon and I (though we broke up on Sunday) were considered the Seal and Heidi Klum of Colby/Bowdoin College. This was not something we made up, people actually labeled us a "power couple" especially at Bowdoin where I spend most of last year. We both knew we were "good looking" individually, but people thought we were better together. People commented a lot on how we were going to have the best looking biracial babies out there. So, not to go on a tangent about my own experience, but it is true that black men are stereotypically attracted to white women, though I personally can't tell you why.
